The city of Baldwyn employees, Mayor Danny Horton, and the Main Street Design Committee are excited to see the renovations to the Azalea Courtyard and stage area. Recently, an afternoon thunderstorm destoryed the roof of the stage at the courtyard. Mayor Danny Horton and the city council voted to make repairs to the stage. In addition to this project, Eric Nanney, chairman of the Main Street Design committee, presented a landscaping proposal to Mayor Horton and the city council. The landscaping proposal was to landscape the backside of the Azalea courtyard with shrubs and other landscaping plants. The design committee's proposal was approved by the city board. City employees and the city landscaper began the work on Wednesday, April 1st.
The Main Street Design committee has plans for similar projects in the near future for certain areas of Baldwyn. Main Street Director, Lori Tucker, stated, "the next area the committee desires to renovate is the signage at Fourth and Main Street." The committee is in the process of contacting all local clubs and organizations with exisiting signage in hopes that they will restore their signs. The Baldwyn Rotary Club has already been contacted and has already replaced the "new" sign. The committee feels this is an area that all residents and visitors see as they enter and exit the town. The original signage has missing letters and a much dated and unattractive landscaping design. The committee and city hope to improve this as soon as weather permits. Once renovated this will be an area that is inviting to all passing through the city of Baldwyn and we hope this will be a place people will want to visit and call "home". "I want each area of our city to show pride and beauty for all residents of Baldwyn and for all visitors that may attend future events," replied, Tucker.
